Almost Active

We've been a little quiet because we've been getting through a mountain of paperwork, background checks, and the home visit.

When I say mountain, I mean mountain of paperwork, it was no joke about an inch thick.  Everything from our childhood and how we met to what type of substance abuse by the birth mother we're okay with.

But we're through it, passed all the background checks, had the agency home visit and are finishing up a few more things before we are active, which might even be this week.

So what does it mean to be "active"?
That means our agency is actively showing our profile to potential birth moms. We can either be matched with a birth mom sometime during her pregnancy, usually last trimester. Or a mom can give birth without a plan for adoption and the hospital calls our agency to help with placement, this is called a "fall in your lap".

Last year our agency had a few fall in your laps where the adoptive parents weren't even active a month! It's unlikely , but could happen. It's more likely that we'll be waiting 8 months to a year to be placed.

However, even if we're matched the birth mother cannot sign for her rights until after the baby is born. Nothing is final until the papers are signed.  If she changes her mind,  it's called a "fall through" while this is hard on the potential adoptive parents, it is also a good thing because it means the birth mom has decided to parent, and that is great news.

This book was recommended in something I was reading,  thought you might be interested.

Thanks for coming on his journey with us. We love you and couldn't do this without your prayers, love, and support.
